Tommy's 1 Year Old Pictures

We had Tommy's 1 year old photo shoot a couple of weekends ago and here are some great pictures. Thanks again to Andrea Christy Photography. I'm always amazed at how she is able to take 45 minutes of a play session with my kids and capture photos like these.

Tommy's First Birthday

We had Tommy's birthday on Friday on the 13th. Because of this I decided to go with a monster theme, and he is my little Tommy Monster! We had rice crispy treats and german chocolate cupcakes that I made. I dyed the frosting green and put candy eyeballs on them. They turned out pretty cute. Then I had the traditional bear cake that has been passed down since Dan had one on his first birthday, and some vanilla and chocolate monster cupcakes with ice cream.

It was so much fun to get everyone together. And the weather stayed nice enough that we could still go outside to let all the kids play. Tommy was pretty timid with his smash cake. He never really did go crazy. He ate off the nose and ears first, then Dan helped demolish it a little hoping he would get the idea. Otherwise he enjoyed playing with everyone and did a great job helping to open presents.

My baby boy is 1 today

Where does the time go? Overnight, Tommy has become older and wiser. He is such a good boy and so much fun to be around. His smile and laughter are contagious. I have had the hardest time trying to discipline him because all he has to do is look at me with that sly little grin and my heart melts.

He has been trying to walk since 10 months, but over the last few weeks is officially running. Eddie now has nowhere to hide. He is sleeping though the night, finally. And he eats like there is no tomorrow. He is definitely my chunky dunker.

He has found his voice, too. The one word you can make out is outside. The boy loves to be outside. And heaven forbid you tell him no, and you will get the scream. He used to be so quiet, but now he screams in protest to anything he doesn't like. And it only gets worse if Eddie has something that he wants!

But he loves his big brother. He is finally big enough, and mobile enough to take on Eddie. There are days where he will tackle Eddie to the ground every chance he gets. And I just laugh because Eddie totally deserves it with how rough he sometimes is with Tommy. But they love to play wrestle and their giggles are adorable. My only complaint is when this transfers over to nap time and they spend 2 hours in their beds just laughing and talking. It is so cute though.

I love you Tommy Boy! It has been so fun to watch your personality come out over the last year and I can't wait to see the young man you grow into. But please stop growing up so fast!

The Zombie Escape Run

This past Saturday I ran my first Zombie Escape run in Helena, Montana. It was so much fun! Me, Dan, John, Cole, Shannon and her mom Sonya ran it. It was a 5K with 10 obstacles along the way. From hurdles, to mud pits, to hay bails we had a blast. We each wore a belt with 3 flags which the zombies tried to take. I was not lucky enough to cross the finish line with all of mine, but I think all the boys had at least one left. I think this is going to become a Mergenthaler family tradition. But hopefully next time I won't be 17 weeks pregnant!
